Caladium Collection and How to care indoors

 HOW TO GROW PLANTS INDOORS

Caladium

Caladiums are wonderful indoorplants in a small garden. They can easily look like they are in bloom. Their leaves are like flowers. Those with white, red and green in their leaves catch my eyes every day.

Light:

Filtered sunlight from a bright window. Too much sun exposure can cause scorched leaves. The leaf colors are often more vibrant when grown in shade.

Watering:

Throughout the growing season give them enough moisture to keep the soil evenly moist. If you allow the soil to dry out, the leaves may yellow and drop.  When it comes cooler, Caladiums naturally go dormant and stop growing.

Fertilizing:

Caladiums don’t need a lot of fertilizer.

Propagation:

Divide each tuber into smaller pieces that contain at least one “eye" or knob from which new growth will start. Allow the cut pieces to dry for a day before planting.

Temperature and Chumidity:

Between 15° to 20° C at night and 20° to 25° C during the day. Grow in a high-moisture environment. Frequent misting can also help boost humidity.

Where to grow:

This is the perfect houseplant for warm rooms beside window. Avoid exposing to drafts and temperature fluctuations.

Soil:

Plant in a moist, rich, well-drained soil.

When to plant

You can start tubers indoors in early spring or when daytime temperatures are 20° to 25° C and nighttime temperatures stay above 15° C if growing from tubers.

How to Overwintering

When the leaves die down naturally in the fall, let the soil dry out. Then dig up the tubers and store them in a dry place no cooler than 20° C. Replant them the following spring.
